The Opals headlined the Laundry Bar to raise money for the Red Kite charity on the 25 th of
October, and it was certainly a defining moment, solidifying their image as
a rebellious rock ‘n’ roll band from Melbourne’s Northeast.
They were the last act of the evening after stellar performances from some of the best
bands in the scene including Tudor Club, Champ Ruby, Heart-Shaped Aces, Verbasco and
Berkeley.
The Opals are notoriously known for their “rowdy stage presence”, and when they came on
stage, they certainly exceeded rowdy, their presence felt riotous- an explosion of passion
and testosterone filled rage. The Opals are disruptive, almost boisterous, but in the most
rock n roll way- they sure know how to make an entrance as they screamed at each other
“LETS GOO” dancing around the stage.
Just when I thought the performance couldn’t get more beautifully chaotic – spiderman
made a surprise appearance on stage. He sang with the band and then miraculously started
crowd surfing- a sight I’d never thought I’d see in my lifetime. Lead singer and guitarist Alex
absolutely shredded it on the guitar, his guitar solos effortless as he even had time to take
sips of his beer. The performance of their single “Summer Sunshine” was a highlight, you
could see the band really get into it, Alex’s bleached hair flew as he stood with his feet on
the speaker, banging his head to Ben’s impressive drumming efforts.
Their set was nothing short of galvanizing, they have what’s called the shock factor to them.
In their triple J Unearthed description, it says that their sound is reminiscent of Oasis - I feel
they emulate their persona as well. They capture this rebellious, blunt attitude that only
teenage boys in a band can pull off. Are they next Gallagher brothers?
But fortunately, this is what being a young rock band is all about – being outrageous,
unapologetic, and chaotic- to have onstage antics, to be over-the top. Without that I don’t
think you can call yourself a rock and roll band. They don’t have the humility of your typical
local band – that’s what makes The Opals stand out.
Excited to see what comes next for them, listen to their debut single here

Frontier Touring is excited to welcome rising country star Sam Barber back to Australia as he brings the Restless Mind Tour to stages across the country in April 2025.
Making his Australian debut in 2023 for the inaugural Ridin’ Hearts Festival, Barber performed alongside country music favourites Bailey Zimmerman, Alana Springsteen and Danielle Bradbery as well as Australia’s very own Seaforth, Zac & George and more.
Sam Barber will make his anticipated return next April performing his first ever headline shows – kicking off at Freo.Social on Wednesday 23 April before heading to Adelaide’s Lion Arts Factory on Friday 25 April, Corner Hotel, Melbourne on Saturday 26 April, Liberty Hall, Sydney on Tuesday 29 April, before a final show at The Triffid, Brisbane on Wednesday 30 April.
Frontier Members can access the presale which begins on Wednesday 11 December from 9am local time, before tickets go on sale Friday 13 December from 9am local time. Tickets and tour information via frontiertouring.com/sambarber.
Hailing from Southeast Missouri, 21-year-old Sam Barber has had a meteoric rise, releasing his debut album Restless Mind last month to rave reviews from fans and critics alike. A stark and soulful set of self-penned standouts, Restless Mind showcases Barber’s sharp-elbowed writing style and barrel-chested vocal – two key elements of his fast rise, which have already led American Songwriter to hail the newcomer as a “Singer-Songwriter on the Brink of Stardom,” while Rolling Stone says, “the Country singer-songwriter delivers from the heart.” – further cementing Sam Barber as one to be on everyone’s radar.
“with a voice poised for stardom, there’s not a message too powerful or radical to be uttered from his lips. It all depends on whether he’s willing to share it.” - Country Central
“Restless Mind confirms Barber’s undeniable sense of self that is firmly rooted in a commitment to his ample talent and prolific work ethic.” – Holler Country
Watch: Sam Barber - Straight and Narrow
Barber was thrust into the spotlight in 2022 when his original song ‘Straight and Narrow’, a bedroom recording of a song he’d written when he was just 16, went viral. A powerful acoustic track about overcoming life’s countless hurdles, the breakout track proved a US Platinum-certified sensation, reaching #1 on viral charts worldwide while landing on multi-format Billboard Charts, ‘Hot Rock Songs’, ‘Hot Rock & Alternative Songs’ and ‘Hot Country Songs’.
What followed was a whirlwind journey of showcasing his talent to the world. Making his live debut in June 2023 at The Basement in Nashville which proved a sell-out, three months later, he took the iconic Grand Ole Opry stage. In between, he played at Bruce Springsteen’s BST Hyde Park series as well as performances at Stagecoach, Lollapallooza and Australia’s own Ridin’ Hearts Festival.
Embarking on the Restless Mind Tour in celebration of the monumental release of his debut album, Barber will wrap up multiple sold-out shows across the US this month, before taking the tour over to Europe for a series of mind-blowing shows in March.
Don’t miss Sam Barber’s epic return to Australia as he brings his powerful live show to stages across the country in April 2025.

+ X Ambassadors also touring with The Script on their Australian tour
9 December 2024
Frontier Touring are pumped to announce special guest Sydney-based multi-instrumentalist Lola Scott on US pop-rock trio, X Ambassadors’ exclusive Melbourne headline show next month at the Corner Hotel on Wednesday 29 January.
X Ambassadors will also tour the country supporting Irish legends The Script on their ‘Satellites World Tour’ Australian dates across January and February.
X Ambassadors with special guest Lola Scott show at the iconic Corner Hotel are on sale now via frontiertouring.com/xambassadors.
X Ambassadors – Sam Nelson Harris (vocals, guitar, saxophone, bass), Casey Harris (piano, keys) and Adam Levin (drums) exploded onto scene with their debut album VHS, and have barely missed a beat since. The multi-platinum-selling trio have gone on to dominate the alternative charts over the last decade with huge hits ‘Unsteady’ and ‘Renegades’ generating over 1.3 billion streams combined and leading the band to a world tour spanning three years.
The trio have just released Townies (out now via Virgin Music Group, here), four new songs that take a deeper look into the world of XA's 2024 album Townie. These songs were written during, before and after the process of making the album but all felt connected to the heart of the project in their own unique ways. Focus track ‘Fragile’ was written before they had officially begun work on the album. It marks the end of one sonic journey and the beginning of another; a bridge from the surreal, freaky world of Beautiful Liar to the reflective Townie.
Lola Scott
Boasting a distinct, assured blend of 2000’s nostalgia, dream-pop and sharp guitar hooks with witty lyricism, Lola Scott’s distinct sound has cemented her as one of the brightest hopes in the Australian neo-pop scene.
Hailing from the Southern Highlands in NSW, Lola Scott has been writing songs since the age of 8. Classically trained in guitar, the now Sydney-based multi-instrumentalist has worked tirelessly expanding her musical offering both with her own releases and song writing sessions, writing with local innovative pop and indie acts including Mallrat, GRAACE, grentperez, CXLOE, Gretta Ray, Jaguar Jonze, Vera Blue & Matt Mason (DMA’s).
Ahead of the release of single ‘High School Drama’ in August of 2023, Lola Scott signed to management & label with Chugg Music (Lime Cordiale, Teenage Dads, Mia Rodriguez).
Closing out 2023 with the release of ‘Last One Standing’, Scott set up the new year by announcing her slot at Lookout Festival, where she shared the stage with Queens of the Stone Age, Spiderbait, The Chats & POND.
2024 has brought with it multiple performances for Scott so far, playing Tone City Records Festival in WA, opening for Alex Lahey in Wollongong, opening for Teenage Joans at Vivid Sydney & recently announcing festival slots at both Rolling Sets Festival, and Changing Tides Festival.
Lola Scott strengthens her ability to effortlessly genre-mix and push the boundaries of what you might have expected from her next, whilst still sounding undeniably hers. Coming off the back of ‘Last One Standing’ Lola re-introduced her sound through ‘Only Miss U’ in May of this year.
With the last 3 releases being added to full rotation at triple j, Lola Scott’s latest single ‘Caffeine’ promises to further solidify her standing as a burgeoning Australian voice.

We caught up with the guys from 19 TWENTY, before there show at the Brunswick Ballroom.
we got to ask them the 5 famous questions.
Who or which bands inspired you to make music?
Probably the ice cream truck jingle. Nothing says “rock star ambition” like chasing a tune tied to dessert. But if we’re talking bands, Jeff Lang, The Waifs, Matt Corcoran, punk and ska bands like Reel Big Fish, Frenzal Rhomb and NoFx.
If you could open a show for any artist, band dead or alive, who would it be?
Definitely a dead one—it’s less pressure when the main act can’t complain. But let’s go with Gary Clark Jnr. He is a monster player!!
Do you have a favourite show or venue you have played at?
Yes. That time we played in someone’s backyard and a goat joined us on stage. Still waiting for Rolling Stone to call that iconic.
But outside that Port Fairy folk has always been a special gig + of course Bluesfest!
What’s the best advice you can give to anyone wanting to start a band?
Don’t. Save yourself. But if you must, always bring snacks, because rehearsals are 90% arguing, 5% music, and 5% eating chips.
All jokes aside, work harder than you think, keep pushing longer than you think and enjoy every minute of it!
What’s next for you?
World domination. Or laundry. Probably laundry first, though. Gotta keep the stage outfits fresh. Once we’ve ironed and pressed those button ups we are having a little break through Dec and Jan then we hit the road for 4 months promoting the digital release of our album “Call It What You Want”
Check out the Photo Gallery for the shoots from the night.
START YOUR ENGINES! The countdown is on for Helluva Ride, an eye-gouging, revved up summer day party that promises to deliver a high-octane music experience like no other.
